Killeen Elementary School

Killeen ISD is issuing a follow-up to the district’s earlier communication about possible student walkouts to ensure families and staff understand expectations and consequences.

KISD supports student expression that is safe, respectful, and does not interrupt instruction. Families may wish to discuss alternatives to walkouts with their student, such as: passive expression (wearing a specific color of clothing, wristband, or button, as permitted by the Killeen ISD dress code), writing a letter or email to an elected official such as a member of Congress, or participating in discussions or community events outside of school hours.

The Texas Education Agency issued guidance to school districts on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, reinforcing that districts must protect instruction during the school day and follow state law and attendance requirements. Killeen ISD will follow this guidance.

In Killeen ISD, the focus remains on student safety and keeping students engaged in learning.

As a reminder, secondary campuses in Killeen ISD are closed campuses. Students may not leave campus during the school day without being signed out by a parent/guardian through the front office.

Any student who participates in a walkout will be marked absent and receive discipline consequences under attendance and truancy policies, as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.

Under Killeen ISD policy FNCI(Legal), disruptive activity on school property include actions such as obstructing entrances, exits, or hallways or interfering with school operations. Student behavior that meets this definition will result in disciplinary consequences, including up to a Class B misdemeanor under the Texas Education Code § 37.123.

Killeen ISD respects student free speech and want students to be heard in ways that are safe, respectful, and appropriate during the school day. KISD thanks families for their partnership in keeping campuses safe and focused on learning.

Who says you can’t play with your food? 🎨🍬 Our Joeys put their creative imaginations to work while practicing following directions and designing gingerbread houses in art!

Our metal detectors have been adjusted, and personal electronic devices, including cell phones, will now activate the system. To help keep morning entry moving smoothly, students who bring a cell phone or tablet should have it in their hand upon arrival ready to present before walking thru the detector. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school safe. Nuestros detectores de metales han sido ajustados y ahora los dispositivos electrónicos personales, incluyendo los teléfonos celulares, activarán el sistema. Para ayudar a que la entrada por la ventana mañana fluya sin contratiempos, los estudiantes que traigan un teléfono celular o una tableta deberán llevarlo en la mano al llegar, listo para presentarlo antes de pasar por el detector.

Our halls came alive with music and culture as Jíbaro Jam brought a joyful posada to Killeen Elementary! Band members and staff sang Spanish holiday carols while students eagerly joined the parade for a truly memorable celebration. 🎺✨ Jíbaro Jam llegó a Killeen Elementary para llenar los pasillos con una posada. Los integrantes de la banda, junto con miembros del personal, recorrieron los pasillos cantando villancicos navideños en español. Killeen ISD has earned a national recognition for its strong commitment to transparent and high-quality financial reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Killeen ISD the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended Aug. 31, 2024. Our students stayed active and had a blast in PE this week! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️✨ • Underhand tossing to spell THANKS: Students practiced accuracy and coordination by tossing underhand to land letters and spell out the word THANKS. • Overhand & underhand throwing with graphing: After practicing both throwing techniques, students created simple graphs to compare their results — mixing movement with math! • Throwing at moving targets: A fun challenge that helped students build focus, timing, and control. • Noodle drumming: High-energy rhythm fun using pool noodles to keep the beat and get bodies moving! 🥁 PE is full of fun and learning! 💪🎉 ¡Nuestros estudiantes se mantuvieron activos y se divirtieron muchísimo en Educación Física! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️✨ • Lanzamiento por debajo del hombro para formar THANKS: Practicaron precisión y coordinación lanzando para aterrizar en las letras y formar la palabra THANKS. • Lanzamientos por encima y por debajo del hombro con gráficas: Después de practicar ambas técnicas, los estudiantes crearon gráficas sencillas para comparar sus resultados — ¡combinando movimiento con matemáticas! • Lanzamiento a blancos en movimiento: Un reto divertido que ayudó a desarrollar enfoque, tiempo y control. • Noodle drumming: Actividad rítmica llena de energía usando “noodles” para seguir el ritmo y mover el cuerpo. 🥁 ¡En Educación Física el aprendizaje y la diversión van de la mano! 💪🎉
